Hi Larry and welcome to the Forum.
You didn't attach any files to your question for us to look at (and my netbook is not working at present) but I suggest you first check the version of Excel running on the Acer Netbook (though we've had the ribbon since Excel 2007).
I don't have a copy of Excel 2007 any longer but perhaps your remote user has clicked Crtl+F1 accidentally- this collapses (or restores) the ribbon- try that. Furthermore if the option "Collapse the ribbon automatically" was set (under menu File/Options... /General/User Interface options in Excel 365 for example), then the ribbon would disappear once you clicked away from the ribbon (in the worksheet) but the ribbon would return if you clicked a ribbon heading like View in the menu bar.
Another thing to check is that the files aren't protected by the VBA method in Don's tutorial Completely Hide the Ribbon Menu in Excel (though you might also get something from another: Hide the Excel Interface and Show Only Data)
It could be sadly that the limitations of the Acer Netbook's resources (RAM etc.) just aren't adequate to support several screens, especially if the files are large. I guess you've tried running it with no other apps running (and disabling whatever services can).
