xlookup with wildcards?

0

I have 2 sheets. let's say SHEETA and SHEETB

SHEETA contains which seminars have been attended some pulips from some classes.

ID NUMBER | NAME | COURSE TITLE | DATE

SHEETB contains the full list of all the pupils of the school.

ID NUMBER | NAME | COURSE 1 | COURSE 2 | COURSE 3 | etc...

QUESTION1

I would like to fill each column of SHEETB with YES if each pupil took the lesson. Unfortunately the names of the coursew titles in SheetA have not a standard name but some description like live, web, pilot, so I think I should use * wildcards.

QUESTION2

I want to know which class has fully complete each seminar OR the % of attending. Should i use a pivot table?

thank you in advance

Hi Coscongr. Please edit your original question and use the Add Files... button to upload a representative Excel file (without any personal data) to show your existing data. That will save us time and we should then be able to give specific help. Also please clarify (in your original question) if the presence of an entry (live, web or whatever) is sufficient to conclude that a pupil took a course or it has to be one of say 10 words. I ask since (if so) I don't think wildcards will be the answer.
