getting opening and closing balance from data table

0

hi! I have made two tables beside each other where the left table is daily"date wise", " category wise" income data with details and the same for the expenses table on the right side. there can be multiple entry on each side on a particular date depending on the category. so basically I want opening balance on second column of income and closing balance on the right table last column. For example income is 1 entry on 1-may and expenses are 4 row means 4 entries on 1 may. how will I set closing balance formula in advance instead of calculating every day as the rows are unknown how many transaction on either side might be done.  example as follows,

                        income table                                                       expenses table

Date    Opening  bal    category    amount          date     category   amount   clos bal

1-may          $1000        cheque       500           1-may      office exp     200     (blank)

 2-may         $1200          cash         1000          (1) may       rent            100     $1200

 3-may          $500            e-fund      200             2 may    vehicle prch    1000   (blank)                                                                               2 may        event           700     ($500)

balance should be automated and only show on end of the date as per closing bal

hope you'll understand what I mean.

thanks in advance

Hi Zakiiqbal and welcome to the Forum.

It will be easier to understand if you attach a representative Excel file to your question. To do so, please EDIT your original question and use the Add Files button to attach an Excel file.

Hello Zakiiqbal,

I have attached a file I made back in 2013. (it will appear that I made it today, but that's only because I saved it in the ".xlsm" format - even though there are no macros on it) It doesn't give you a daily closing balance, but it does allow you to track your income(s) and expenses by month. It may not be exactly what you are hoping for, but it's a posibility. If it's not detailed enough for your needs, feel free to tweak it to suit.

Cheers   ;-)
