Is there a way that I can use Conditional Formatting; Data Bars in Excel 2003? It is a function in 2007 and I have it working in a spread sheet but when I save as 2003 there is a compatibility issue.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use the data bar formatting for values in another cell.
In one column I have text, in the next column there are numbers. I would like to have data bars over the text, based on the numbers in the next cell. But when I go to conditional formatting based on a formula, it doesn't seem to offer the data bars option...
does anyone know?
thanks!
Hello everyone,
I have a doubt regards to Excel 2007
In *Condition Formatting *if I choose DATA BARS
(that small bars in the cells that represent the number and compare the numbers in others cells...)
my doubt is:
is it possible to configure the DATA BARS
to start from Right to Left (and not from Left to Right which is the default) ?*
I will try to explain the reason of this doubt:
In column B I have the variation of some values.
In column C I have the formula: =IF(B1<0;B1;"")
In column D I have the formula: =IF(B1>0;B1;"")
then I use the DATA BARS in column C and D
If the DATA BARS starts from Right to Left on column C
I would have a perfect view of my data, did you understand ?
(because in column C I have only negative numbers)
Now I have some negative bars starting from Left to Right in column C
and I have some positive bars starting from Left to Right in column D
It is ok. but I I would like to have the side bars starting from Right to Left in column C,
did you understand what I mean ?
This is why I am looking for this answer and, if possible for you,
I would appreciate your reply.
Thanks a lot
I'm from Brazil.

Hello all -
I am working on a spreadsheet where I have values both positive and negative percentages. We are wanting to change the color of the bar based upon the percentages in the cell...say -5 to -2 = green; -1.99 to 1.99 is yellow and 2 and above is red.
I'm thinking that the databar length will be based on absolute value versus true value in the cell but if it is possible to have true value that would be even better.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Looking at this function ; i can only see how it allows you to represent 'visually' a value in a cell in terms of a coloured bar. with the colour changing depending on the magnitude of the value.
I would like to use the function to represent two lots of data (from two other cells )shown with two coloured bars within one cell, so that each bar is end to end within one cell, then with 'spare' length at the end of the bar representing 'un-used' capacity.
Can anyone advise ?
Can We negate the Conditional Formatting in DATA BARS?
While suing DATA Bars we select the following options
FORMAT Style -->
2 Colour Scale
3 Colour Scale
Data Bar
Icon Sets
Type-->
Lowest Value
Number
Percent
Formula
Percentile
Now sometimes we do use conditional formatting in such a way that the cell gets coloured when the condition is not met ..
Is this possible in DATA bars too?
Hi,
Warm Regards to all the superbrains !!
I'm just unable to retain the cell formats of conditional formatting after removing it.
Please help me in this regard.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,..When highlighting a column and using Condition Formatting, say you have a list of numbers, is there any way you can highlight a cell if it is a certain amount higher than the next closest in value cell.
Meaning for example, highlight a cell which is 10 points higher than the second top rated cell.

I recently upgraded my Excel version from 2003 to 2010 and am having a problem with a simple conditional format that worked in the previous version and sort of works in the current version
The worksheet does the following conditional format:
-if the current cell matches any cell within a specified range then change the current cell fill color to blue
In the previous Excel version, once a matching entry was entered into the range, the current cell "immediately" changed fill color.
With Excel 2010, if I input a matching entry in the range, there is no change in the current cell's fill color unless I scroll away to the point that i cannot see it the current cell on my monitor. For example, if I page down a full screen and then page up, the current cell is then blue; If i ALT+TAB to a browser and then back to Excel there is no change in the current cell fill color.
Any help is appreciated.
