Form controls behaving erratically

0

Hi,

I am using the up/down arrow "form control" in a spread sheet. I have noticed that the buttons work fine for a short while after the file has been opened but then begin to behave erratically as follows:

1) They either become completely unresponsive or

2) Both behave as "up" arrows.

As a "fix", sometimes the error seems to correct itself at random, or when I click away from the current tab, or (mostly) when I save the file and then re-opened it - but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this! However, even then the issue soon re-emerges.

I have been using this feature for a long time without encountering this problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem or is this an Excel bug?

Thank you.

P.S. My Excel version is 2207, Build 15427.20210

Hi Zico and welcome to the Forum

I've never had that happen exactly but had strange things occur as the battery in my wireless keyboard or mouse was very low voltage and about to fail.

If you EDIT your question and use the Add Files... button to attach your file, I could see if it works okay for me (but I guess you did that with a colleague).

Hi John,

Many thanks for taking the time to reply and for your suggestion. However, the mystery persists, albeit in a localised form! Let me explain:

You had guessed that I might have tested this issue on another computer. As logical as this sounds, it had not crossed my mind, I must admit - the obvious often illudes us!

So I did test the spreadsheet on an old computer of mine but was unable to replicate the issue, despite numerous attempts. This is an unsatisfactory outcome as it points to my brand new computer (HP Envy) as the culprit, which I can not explain away! Unfortunately, this also implies that others might experience this problem when using the spreadsheet, depending on their computer...

I appreciate your kind offer to test the spreadsheet, which will be included.

Regards,

Zico

Thanks Zico,  I'll l try your spreadsheet when I'm home later but is your new computer running Windows 11 or the same OS as your old machine?

Thank you, John. Windows 10 on the old computer but the same version of Excel.

Zico

I don't have Windows 11 but your file works well on Excel365 running on Windows 10. I mean the spin button on sheets numbers 1. (e.g. cell G7), 2; and 3. work as expected.

After about 15 minutes, they operate just the same.

Can't really help you but it might be a mouse or touchpad driver issue (not sure)

Much obliged for your time and assistance, John.

Hope to hear from others on the forum on this.

Have a good day.
