Calculate Averages with stored values from text

0

How do I calculate averages in column if I'm using a name/string as a place holder that's assigned a value in the NAME area.

I want to assign words to values like, different items are worth different values and instead of having to input the value of each item in a column next to it, i just want to be able to assign that item a value and then at the end of the column calculate the average of each item. I've tried using the NAME in the formula section but I get a div/0 error or a #value error.

What you describe appears eminently doable but success depends upon minute detail. Perhaps, the best way to show us what you tried is to post a workbook. You can attach such a workbook to your question in Edit mode (editing the question affords you access to the attachments).
