You can't add a new item to a validated cell. The addition must be made to the list in the named range. There is a way to allow unlisted entries in the validated cell but that won't add the item to the list for future use and, in many cases, allowing unlisted items to be entered defeats the purpose of having validation in the first place.

Upload a sample file and it will be easier to point out the error, it's something with validation on the cell with the drop down or maybe you mean where you have the list stored?  If you don't want to upload a sample file, just remove all data validation form the worksheet and start fresh and it should work.

Ok I see what I was doing wrong...My list of items are on a differant page...so I did everything on my List page and when I went to my page with the Valadation, I was trying to put in new items there instead of on the table list on my list page...I got it...thanks for the help and patients...
