Stock market price updates

I'm using Excel 2016 vesion 1710. I'm also using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that I have a financial worksheet with a list of stocks. I've been having problems, intermittantly, updating daily stock prices and receiving a message that "Excel is not responding."   Any suggestions?

I have this problem all the time, with Word too. The application will be unresponsive for minutes at a time, and sometimes, rarely, totally fails to find traction again and ends up crashing. Should you find a solution please be sure to post it here.
Meanwhile, my best guess is that it has to do with some entries in the registry missing, misplaced or wrong. What with every program one ever installs (or uninstalls) making some amendments to the registry which it feels it is entitled to the cure would be to reinstall everything from scratch - with the likely result that the program that caused the trouble will repeat its performance when installed again. I have a registry cleaner (performance enhancer) of good repute which regularly finds hundreds of errors in my registry whenever I run it which isn't often because it makes no discernible difference.

Sounds to me like things are just running slow and maybe close some other programs :/
