hello!
i want to have a formula that counts the number of "D"s in a column, if a different column contains a name equal to any name from a list in a different range.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, if, for instance, the name "Bob" is found in Range A1:A25, then cound the number of occurrences for the letter "D" in range A1:A25.
Can I ask why you want to do this exactly? There might be another approach if I know the reason behind it.
