I want a conditional formula that if I input anything into Column D, then the corresponding cell in Column B will get a strikethrough:
So if I input a date in Cell D7, then Cell B7 will receive a strikethrough.
Thanks

From limited experience I know that excel calculates dates via serial numbers.
I have formulas to add a number of days to a cell containing an entered date and display the resulting new date (ie. 03/01/2011 (c34)+11 = 03/12/2011)
I am seeking to leave resulting formula cell blank until a date is entered in the input cell. Currently when the input cell is empty the formula cell obviously displays 1/11/1900 using the above example.
What conditional format would achieve leaving the formula cell blank until date data in entered into the source cell?
Hopefully a simpler question for your experience level than mine.

Hi was wondering if anyone can help.
I am trying to reference a cell on another worksheet, the cell is formatted to be a date. when i put in the following formula =Sheet2!A1 and i don't input a date into A1 on sheet 2 the cell containing the formula shows the date 00/01/1900, is there any way of stopping this showing, ideally the cell would be blank until I inputted a date into A1 on sheet 2
Any help would be very much appreciated

Hi, this is something so simple that I have forgotten how to do it.
I want F3 to turn yellow if someone selects "Yes" from a drop down list in cell E3, then F3 has no fill once data is entered into it. And F3 turns Black if E3= no selected from the list. Or F3 turns red if E3 contains "TBC"
so in summary,
if E3="Yes", then F3 conditional format to Yellow until data is entered in it.
if E3="No", then F3 conditional format to Black
if E3="TBC", then E3 & F3 conditional format to Red until E3 is changed to
"Yes" or "No" at a later time.
Thanks in Advance for the help

Today I ran into an odd problem. I typed in values for column A rows 1 through 10 then values for column B rows 1 through 10. then in column C, I made the formula C1=A1/B1. The math was correct it showed 542 in the C1 cell. So I dragged that formula down and it showed 542 in all column C cells which is not correct. And when I went to check to see if the formula was correctly dragged it was. For instance, the formula in C2 is =A2/B2 however the value of that cell showed 542 which was not the correct math/value.
But it gets even more weird. When I click on the Column C cells and then it shows the formula up top in the formula bar and if I put my cursor anywhere in the formula bar and hit Return the formula does not change however the correct value then appears in the Column C cell. It is like the act of putting the cursor in the formula activates it to work properly but until it is activated that C cell shows the value of the cell which it was dragged down from.
This is quite bizarre. Has anyone ever seen this before? I have no idea what is going on. I ran a scan for viruses and none were found. I tried it on several new/different spreadsheets but it keeps happening.
Thanks for any tips on this.

Column 1 has roughly 20 rows of information. Cell C1 has the formula =A1.
Is there a formula so that when I drag C1 horizontally into D1, E1, F1, ..., the values placed in each cell will be =A2, =A3, =A4, ...
I do not want to transpose the values from column 1 into C1, D1,.... I want these cells to have a formula that links them up to column 1's values
Thanks

If that number is less than 100, I want it to show as blank.
Any help?
Right now, I'm trying to accomplish this by making a conditional format...meaning when my cell equals less than 100 I make the cell color and font the same (so it looks blank, but its not). When I print it, it still shows the negative value.
Thanks.

Hi there,
I'm very new to Excel, and I'm having trouble figuring a few things out. Hopefully this will be very easy for you guys!
In Sheet 1, I have a column of cells that I would like to also appear in Sheet 2. If I add a new row to the column in Sheet 1, I would also like it to be updated automatically in Sheet 2. Currently, I can get it to show the contents of individual cells from Sheet 1 in Sheet 2 by using this formula in the formula bar for each cell in Sheet 2:
=Sheet1!A3 (or whichever cell it is)
That's fine, but I'd like to just have a formula that will reproduce the entire column (ie. without a fixed range, as new rows are going to be added to the column).
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be very very grateful. Thanks.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I consider myself a more advanced Excel user and can navigate my way around fairly well. I've written a spreadsheet and am wondering if there is a way to permit data entry in a cell, contingent upon another cell being populated.
In simple terms, you can't enter data in cell X, until cell "Y" has been populated with something.
Can anyone help with this, because I can't figure it out....

Hi All,
I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.
Many thanks,
Andy

Is there a way I can use conditional formatting or something to change the color of the cell once I enter a value or text into that cell? For example if I currently have the A2 cell color as a gray color, and I enter information into A2 can I have it set to automatically change to no fill or any other color without having to click out of the cell, back into it, and then clicking the button?? Does that make sense??? Can someone help me?
I'm trying to use conditional formatting to highlight phone calls that came in between certain hours.
The call times are in the custom format h:mm, although it could easily be changed to an Excel time format. I'm using Excel 2002. I want the cell to have a different fill color if it falls within particular time frames.
Example: If the call came in between 22:00 and 23:59 color is light green.
If the call came in between 23:59 and 08:00 the color is yellow.
Example spreadsheet is attached.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, please help me out with this one.
So I am at work workin on this report and I need a function that will make Excel automatically insert the today's date in a cell (let's say D90) when I fill the content of another cell (for example C90) and the that will be inserted will never change. I tried to use the =TODAY( ) function but it keeps updating the date in the cell to the current date if i reopen the worksheet 2 days later. I need the cell to keep in the cell the date of the day when I filled in the content of cell C90 and do not updated it every time i open the document to the actual date.. Thanks in advance!!

I'm trying to format a worksheet to show how many days overdue certain tasks are, and running into a couple of issues. The sheet is set up with Due Dates in Column A, Days Overdue in Column B, and Date Completed in Column C. My first thought was just to use as simple a formula as possible in Column B =Today()A2. This worked alright for tasks that already had Due Dates assigned, but if Column A was blank I'd get a high number in Column B. I also realized that tasks will continue to show as overdue even after I enter the completedon date in Column C. Is there a relatively simple way to tackle this formula? Thanks in advance for suggestions. (I've attached an example with the column headings I want to use.)
I have a workbook that has compliance dates in columns "F","G" and "H" from row 7. What I need is when the date in either column comes within 30 days to auto send an email, address in column "A", recipients name in column "B". and then place todays date in column 'P". ALso need to send a follow up email when either date comes within 7days and then place todays date in column "Q". If there is a date in column "P" then don't send email. If there is a date in column "Q" then don't send follow up. Can this be done without the users intervention and each time the workbook is opened.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

This is probably an easy question for most of you, but it's killing me. I tried searching before I posted this, but the suggestions given didn't seem to work for me.
I need to look up data from a cell on one Excel sheet, compare it to a list on a 2nd sheet and when they equal, take a value from a different column on the 2nd sheet and drop it back on the 1st sheet. Since that's a horrible explanation, let me try explaining it this way:
Sheet 1
Column A has a long list of code type 1s
Column E has a long list of code type 2s
Sheet 2
Cell C2 has code 1
Cell E2 needs code 2
I know it should take an index/match function, but nothing I try is working. What I'm trying is the following formula in Cell E2 of sheet 2:
=INDEX('Sheet 1'!A:A,MATCH(C2,'Sheet 1"!E:E,0),5)
But all I get is no result. What's driving me bonkers is that if I copy everything over to a single sheet, that formula works fine.

I found this solution for "drop down list with hyperlink" but it did not work.
Perhaps a better solution is to use a workaround that relies on the HYPERLINK function to refer to whatever is selected in the dropdown list. For instance, if you have your data validation dropdown list in cell A1, then you might put the following formula in cell B1:
=HYPERLINK(A1, "Goto Link")
The solution directly above provides exactly what I am looking for
in the field where I write the formula, but it fails to hyperlink.
I have created a drop down list and linked each one of them to a
specific worksheet. When I select them individually they link to
appropriate worksheet. But when I select them in the drop down
list I receive the following error when I select the Hyperlink in
cell B1 as directed above.
"Cannot open the specified file"
Any thoughts?
Bob

I have a formula in cell C1 (=A1/B1). I want to copy this formula down to row C20, however rows A2 to A20 are empty so C2 to C20 show (#DIVO!). Is there something I can put in the formula to make column C be blank until the data is enter into Columns A & B?
I am trying to automatically capture and record the date of a cell's last change in value (date stamp). I have an item price list and if a particular cell gets updated I want to automatically record the date of change of that cell. I realize that after I change cell A1 I could tab to cell B1 and enter Ctrl+; but if I have a hundred new prices to enter I don't want to do that (plus me or the data entry person might forget).
For instance,
A B
1 $32.17 8/17/08
2 $43.20 9/12/09
If I go in and update cell A1 to $33.98 today I would like cell B1 to read 2/16/10. But I don't want cell B2 to change.
Thanks

Is there a way to use the new conditional formats (data bars, icon sets, etc) in PowerPoint? Basically, I'd like to create a table that shows icons based on data, like in Excel? I know I could paste a premade Excel table as a picture, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
Thanks!
Thanks!
hi,
I would like a formula that would list all the items in row B that match the criteria in row A. the first cell with formula would list the first item, the second cell with the formula would list the next item, and so forth. Also, column B might have a duplicates that should be listed. Is this possible? I cannot manipulate the order of the original items (ie, filters) because this data is being used to derive other formulas.

Hello,
My Cell C3 is a numeric value.....I have set conditional formatting to
make the text red and bold when the number is equal or less than 10,000

condition is true?? or if not a message is there a way to make a
message box pop up when my C3 condition of less then or equal to 10,000
is true?
how would I do something like this?

this be done? Can I enter something in the "criteria" part of the formula
that can do this?

colored in a formula.
=CELL("color",cell)
It might just be that I don't know what this means in Help:
"color" > 1 if the cell is formatted in color for negative values;
otherwise returns 0 (zero).
Can anyone help?
