I'm trying to get all of the possible combinations of 3 that cost less than $4 and their values in a list using an excell formula? Is it possible?
There are 7 things at the store and you must buy 3 different ones without spending more than $4. All 7 items are valued differently than their price. What 3 things would you buy to get the most value? Any money you save from the $4 gets added to the purchase's value.
Toy $2.00 - Value 4
Magazine $1.75 - Value 4
Ice Cream $1.50 - Value 3
Drink $1.25 - Value 3
Lotto $1.00 - Value 2
Candy $0.75 - Value 2
Newspaper $0.50 - Value 1
I can do the math, but I can't do it with excell to check my answer...

So, the answer is that even though it's possivle to spend the full $4 in a few different ways, you're actually best spending $3.75 on the Magazine, candy and drink in order to get the most value $9.25.
Simple enough with so few options, but the problem has the potential to help with the purchase decision when there are let's say 50 options, prices and values and 10 different items need to be purchased. If there is a way to solve it in excell I'd appreciate some ideas. Thanks!

1) -8055.00 / -23445.00 = 34.36%
2) 60267.55 / 173953.28 = 34.65%
Should #1 above actually be a negative percent?
I am working on a formula in excel. I have a series of numbers from 1 to 10,000.
1 has a value of .1
2-3 has a value of .2
4-6 has a value of .3
7-10 has a value of .4
How can I easily calculate the value of 10,000? Is this even possible in Excel? Is there a better way?

I need an excel formula to calculate the negative nominal rate of return given the negative effective rate and the number of compounding periods per year. Excel's NOMINAL and NPER functions do not work when a negative rate assumption is used resulting in a #NUM! error. The context for this is that I am using MS Excel to to investment analysis. I want to analyse the resulting value of an investment account balance when there is a negative effective rate and corresponding nominal rate of return (mimicing a declining value in a particular investment/account due to negative annual return on investment expressed as a negative annual effective rate of return but that is compounding monthly - and hence the need for the nominal rate and compounding periods). I need to use a calcualtion in Excel that gives me the negative nominal rate of return equivalent to the negative effective rate of return assumtion.

I need to be able to solve an ammortization schedule for rate and amount. I know start date and amount, current date and amount, and original loan term. I am getting the info now empirically by running a regular monthly table, then adjusting the rate until I get to the current balance. There must be a way to simply solve for what I need.

I am using Excel to balance my checkbook. How do I enter a debit or credit in one column and then have the next column automatically display the new balance?
I want to calculate the survival rate/failure rate for a product. Usually I use weibull distribution (linear regression followed by the 'WEIBULL' function), but unfortunately the data I have simply won't work with my current methods.
I have 10 different groups of widgets.
Group 1 widgets were installed 1 year ago. A certain percentage of those widgets are failed.
Group 2 widgets were installed 2 years ago. A certain percentage of those widgets are failed.
...
Group 10 widgets were installed 10 years ago. A certain percentage of those widgets are failed.
There are far fewer 10-year widgets than 1-year widgets out there.
The catch is that I don't know if the group 1 widgets will survive year 2, or if year 2 widgets will survive year 3, etc.
I want to create a nice curve that tells me (approximately) how many years the average widget in my sample dies 50% of the time. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any ready-made formula in Excel for this. So I turn to you, brave Excel Board Members, to help me save myself from Math.
