To anyone that will listen...I need serious help with excel and graphing. I
am taking statistics, and our instructor wants us to graph normal probability
distributions. I seem to be typing in the wrong information, although I am
not sure how. My book isn't very clear on how to do it, and neither do the
excel tutorials. I need this explained in PLAIN ENGLISH, as I am not overly
familiar with "computer lingo". The problem is: standard deviation=4.7,
mean=21.7 x is numbers 1-10, y is (in order) 25, 19, 17, 15, 20, 24, 30, 19,
16, 23. Please tell me what to type and where to put it in. (I have gotten
as far as going to fx, then "statistical", then NORMDIST. WHAT THEN???
Thank you!
Dear collegues.
I try to find a way to visualize some probability distributions, looking like this:
(example)
Code:
>4 %:
0
this distribution is, let s say, available for every month. i want to show that distribution over history, so i want to create something like this: http://www.graphicinvestor.com/econo...art_200608.gif
by now, i calculated the quartiles (25, 50 and 75%), but now i do not really how to continue to get where i want to.
anyone has an idea / hint how to continue?
any help would be great! I guess it s more a statistical problem...
Hello, I currently need to produce a rather specific graph.
The graph is to display measured readings that are in spec/out of spec or in target, and another graph which shows a normal distribution of the target. These both need to be on the same set of axis.
The catch is that the data along the x axis needs to be grouped into ranges to make it easier to read the graph and so that it isn't spread out too much. i.e. grouping: 21-25, 26-30, 31-35 all the way to 56-60.
Basically I need a way to graph a target normal distribution without data for it...or possibly just hashing some data up to give the desired shape. I have the mean value desired (41-45), with the min/max of the target zone being at 35 and 50 respectively.
I then need to graph around 264 points of data onto this axis, arranged in correct groups and showing the distribution in a normal/bell curve manner.
I'm stuck at graphing the target distribution and also on how I can easily group the data into the ranges specified. This graph will need to be repeated many times for different sets of data, and i'll also have to re-create it for slightly different target zones. Any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated
I am trying to find the normal probability density function on excel. I have found the formula:
BETADIST(x,alpha,beta,A,B)
x is the function that i am trying to find the formula of, and a and b are optional upper and lower bounds which i will not be using.
i do not understand what alpha and beta mean though, if anybody could shed any light on how to use this formula it would be greatly appreciated
Chris
This will be a bit of a longish post so please bear with me.
Using Excel I am attempting to model flow in and out of a tank over a predetermined period of time. Unlike a simple continuous flow model of In - Out = Accumulation/Depletion, variable amounts are forced in or out of the tank at discrete (and also variable) intervals. The statistics portions comes after modeling this sufficiently over several iterations to analyze a binomial distribution of whether or not the tank dries up (total in tank
How would I produce a distribution of, for example, students by their class:
Freshman 4
Sophomore 3
Junior 7
Senior 9
This can be either a formula or an algorithm.
Also, assuming that a freshman has completed 0 semesters, a sophomore 2, a junior 4 and a senior 6, how would I computer the average number of semesters that students on the list have completed? Basically, I guess I need to assign these numbers to the categories, but I don't know how to do that.
Hi,
I have two issues with EXCEL2007:
1. How to generate a uniformly sampled data sheet from following example table:
X Y
12.4 51
42.4 77
87.5 92.8
117.4 104.6
132.4 109.8
162.5 122.4
192.3 133.2
222.5 142
252.5 152.2
I need to have a table with column having data every 50 units or every 100units. For example using moving average trend line etc or through any other method.
2. In the scatter plot I want to annotate the samples with the labels a, b, c, d etc for the following table:
Label X Y
a 12.4 51
b 42.4 77
c 87.5 92.8
d 117.4 104.6
e 132.4 109.8
f 162.5 122.4
g 192.3 133.2
h 222.5 142
i 252.5 152.2
Any help highly appreciated.

Rao
Hi folks,
I'm looking for a macro that I can use to thange all Normal text to bold & all Italic text to normal. I would like it to do the entire current sheet.
Any help is appreciated.
I have a cell with 20:02:00:60:45:17:09:73, I remove the : by using replace and it changes to 2.00201E+15. In the formula bar it shows as 2002006045170970 but in the cell it shows as 2.00201E+15. The number in the formula bar is inccorect, 2002006045170970 should be 2002006045170973. I've found this is automatic, Excel uses exponential notation for numbers larger than 12 or more digits. But why is it changing the last number from 3 to 0?
Thanks.
