This is probably more of a math question than Excel, but can someone figure out a mathematical equation that will give me a curved graph based on the following requirements (see attached sample file).
Nutshell: A team of 20 people are ranked (X-axis) based on their individual performance. They each get a percentage share of a cash prize (Y-axis). How much each member wins compared to the others is not linear but curved. The highest ranked members get a bigger piece of the pie, proportionally, than the lower ones.
I need to be able to experiment with different degrees of curve and different numbers of contestants. The sum of all members' percent shares must equal 100%.
I'm looking for an excel 2007 statistic function. I have a list of values and am looking for a function that will return the probability that another value will fall between a specified lower and upper limit. The values are not integers and there are some gaps in the distribution. Can you help?

Dear all
My company is selling software subscribtions. The incentive model was so far to calculate the basis for bonus to the sales people, as the revenue for the rest of the calender year on the subscribtion.
The subsribtion generates a revenue of $100/month. If the sales person sell the subscribtion i january the basis of the bonus calculation is 12*100. If the the sales person sell the subscribtion in october the basis of the bonus calculation is 2*100.
The hatch here is off cause that the sales people will try to delay sales in the last months of the year into next year for maximization of total bonus amount
What I want to do is to make a bonus model in excel that encourage sales as fast as possible no matter the month of the year. I am thinking of af exponential decreasing function a bit like the one in the attached sheet. It's dependent of the period. I use the PPMT function. Ex. In the attached sheet if a sale is made in october it will result in a basis of bonus calculation of $200. If I use the PPMT function the basis of bonus calculation is $ 598, which fulfill my purpose. The only problem is that my use of the PPMT function doesn't sum up to 12*100=1200.
Any suggestions?
I've been working on a ss that requires me to create a function to determine a value from a exponential curve where the area of the curve is variable . The terminal points, 0,0 and 100,100 remain constant and the curve is symmetrical at the 45degree angle. How can I derive a function knowing only these things.

Andy Pope is referenced several times in these forums for his cool chart that plots the intersections of two complex lines. I downloaded the example but it references a proprietary function Intersectcomplex(). Any ideas where I could access this function?
Second:
given the following two exponential functions
P=1000(1.12)^x
and
P=5000(1.06)^x
How would I plot the intersection of these curves and report the coordinates of the intersection?
Any help would be appreciated.

When I enter the value 27.2, the mean 27.20625 and the stdev 0.123798 into
the NORMDIST function, set to false, I get the probability mass function
outcome of 3.2184. Can anyone tell me what this means. I thought that the
maximum value fora pmf was 1, and in fact that the sum of the pmfs for all
possible values is 1.
