I am looking for a formula that will remove any unwanted characters in a cell.
For example i may a word or string of words with "-" , " ' " or "," in them and i would like to have these removed.
Thanks,
Adam.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this problem.
I am trying to export some data to my website using mysqlcc. I have my spreadsheet setup so that I can simply copy the data from excel (2000) and paste it into mysqlcc.
As far as I can tell there is nothing at all wrong with the data or the formulas, but when I paste into mysqlcc there are unwanted quote characters, 1 at the beginning and 1 at the end. This throws off my sql syntax and of course the insert fails. It will also paste that way into a text editor I use.
There is one cell which contains the insert into statement in which I have quite a bit of concatenated data from probably 10 or so columns. I have narrowed it down to one in particular which is the sales narrative. There is nothing particularly unusual about this data (aside from the fact that it has quite a few characters. I removed pieces of the data to see where it fails, and did find that after taking some of the data out it would work, but there is nothing unusal at all about the data which was removed. None of this makes any sense at all. So, to make a long story short, sometimes when I paste from excel the quotes show up and other times they do not, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this behaviour.
I should also mention that when viewing the cell the beginning quote is nowhere to be found. The contents are too long to be able to really tell about the end quote, but there is no reason to suspect anything different for that.
Has anyone else here ever run into a similar situation and/or happen to know what is wrong here? I'm about ready to start banging my head against the wall here.
I can post an example of the data if need be.
Thanks again if you can offer any insight.

hi,
i have quite a lot of excel 2003 spreadsheets which once edited and saved by excel2007.
now, i'm using back excel 2003.
(because my efficiency dropped by half by searching the command i wanted in excel2007.)
when i open them with excel2003 again, there are a lot of styles.
i want to remove them.
but it is a tedious job to remove them one by one for these spreadsheets.
i tried style manager add-in. but it didt help at all.
is there any quick way to do it??
thanx for reading.
regards
I have a multi-column spreadsheet in Excel 2003 - produced daily - which updates on a line by line basis the months sales activity. Included in this spreadsheet is a column displaying account numbers. Is there a method whereby I can run a macro to remove a specific account number so that I don't have to manually highlight and delete the lines of data which contain this account number?
Any help would be welcome. Thank you. Billph.
I have this huge speadsheet that is updated all the time.
Sometimes number are formatted like this: "1234.567-8901" but I want it to display the number without any other characters in it like "12345678901"
I was thinking of an if statement with nested MID functions to locate the characters, but how do I take the "." and the "-" out without doing it manually?
Hello,
I have tried hard to no avail using the trim function to get rid of the unwanted characters before and after the numbers below :
<---- 17026 ---->
<---- 17027 ---->
<---- 17049 ---->
Any one with any ideas?
Many thanks
FO
I've been using excel 2008 on a mac, but the end user of the file is going to be on a PC. When the file opens in excel 2007 on the PC there are a lot of unwanted characters that show up, they show up as a box, as though there are spaces behind, but there are not. I have enclosed a screen shot. Any ideas on how to remove these without going through each cell individually?
