Since I use a real computer and not a Mac <anyone taking the bait?>, I am quite fond of keyboard shortcuts.
You know, when you start typing a formula in 2007 and Excel then comes up with a list of suggestions to choose from? I've often wondered how to deal with this list other than removing my hand from the keyboard, finding the mouse somewhere behind the coffee cup and the sandwich wrapper, shaking out the crumbs and finally managing to click the right option.
The VBE it does a similar thing. BUT ... in the VBE you can arrow down the list and hit space to make the selected parameter appear in the code window. In a worksheet though, when entering a formula you can't. If you hit space, it'll insert a space.
Drives me bananas.
Just found out that when entering a formula in a worksheet, you can arrow down and then need to hit TAB to confirm the selection from the list.
duhh. howszat for consistency, Micro$oft?? Keeps us on our toes, right?
I don't want to start a "my favourite keyboard shortcut" regurgitation thread, but if you have any odd things that irk you, please put them here.
cheers
My personal workbook is stacked with keyboard shortcuts... I don't have many left for any other macros. If I create a new macro enabled workbook, is there a way to override my personal keyboard shortcuts with the new macros that are specific to the new book. I don't need to use all the keyboard shortcuts with my personal book for the new workbook.
Hello everybody,
I want help on keyboard shortcuts.
I have workbook which contains 25 worksheets numbered from 1 to 25.
While entering data in worksheet No 1 or No 2 , many times I have to go to Worksheet No. 25 or 24 or 19 or any worksheet for reference. I do this using mouse but scrolling rightside everytime is time consuming and tedious. I want to use keyboard in such a way that I can directly go to required sheet directly.
Please help me.
I know that you can use Ctrl+[ to link to a cell automatically where a formula might be in use. What is the keystroke combination to go back to the original cell?
This keystroke combination doesn't normally show up on any shortcut list, so please don't suggest I go to Help and click on keyboard shortcuts. This seems to be one that is not documented or else is a customer generated shortcut. If that is the case and there is a way to create a custom shortcut to enable this process, please let me know how to do this. I am not as proficient in Excel as I would like to be, which is the reason I am asking for help.
I am using Excel 2003.
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm trying to help my friend with an Excel issue. He is using the F4 key (or ctrl-Y) to "repeat" the last action on a spreadsheet, but for some reason, it doesn't always work. I've also noticed this on spreadsheets of my own.
For instance, if you run a command (even cutting and pasting) you can press F4 to repeat that same action on another cell. Sometimes it works, but other times it does not.
Has anyone seen this happen before, and if so, do you know what the problem is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
...the 'fit all columns' functionality?
Hi, sorry for not greeting you people before.
I mean that command in which you click at the top-left "cell" (between A and 1, the point they would cross) and then double-click the separator between columns A and B. When done, all data in the current sheet will be used as limits to resize the columns sizes.
Is there a shortcut to do that without the mouse?
Thanks!
What is the keyboard shortcut to go to the 1st cell of the column you are on? If you hit end down arrow you go to the end of the current column but if you hit home and up arrow it does not do the same. Control home takes you to A1, I am writing a script to automate some tasks and I need to go to first row of the current column. Any know how to do this?
Can any body tell me the shortcut key to merge cells
Regards
Anil
We know the keyboard shortcut for selecting the total column (CTRL+spacebar).
once when i was using this, some how it got removed. Can any one of you
helpme how to get the shortcut back. Also share some information about
assigning or removing keyboard shortcuts in excel.
Hi,
Hopefully a straightforward question.
When editing a formula, Excel automatically provides a drop-down list of Range Names that match the characters you have typed.
Is there a key you can press to use the highlighted name. I've tried all sorts of variations, but with no luck, so I'm having to double-click the required name.
Thanks
Steve
