Greetings
I have a combo box which pulls its list from a list on one of many sheets. The list is formatted as fraction, & the fractions show carrectlyof course 1/8, 1/2, etc.
When I go to use the combo box they show correctly, but as soon as I make a selection, the fraction is converted to a number .33333, .5, etc.
How can I get the fraction to stay a fraction?
Nevermind!
As I typed this...
Format the fractions as Text in the sheet & they stay fractions!
Hopefully this will help someone someday...
Thanks anyway!
I know that if I enter =3/4 in a cell it will give me .75 but is there is formula to convert fractions into decimals or is this the best way to do it? I was also wondering if there is some way to convert the decimal amount to a fraction
for measurement conversions I know that
=B3*25.4 will convert a decimal to mm and so will the formula =CONVERT(E4,"in","mm")
and to convert mm to a decimal a few formula that work are
=CONVERT(H3,"mm","in")
=MROUND(H4/25.4, 1/8)
=H5/25.4
=INT(H6/25.39999918*8)/8
But is there a way to convert a fraction to the decimal and is there a way to convert mm to a fraction instead of the decimal equivalent of the fraction?
or maybe a formula to convert mm to inches but instead of the result being in decimal format it would be in fraction format?
I have a macro for importing data from an XML file and converting it to CSV (after some manipulation, amputation etc.). One field represents the odds of something happening. This means the field contains mostly integers and some fractions. I want all fractions to display (and save in .csv) as decimals w/2 sig figs. In other words, if the field right now displays as 3/5 I want it to convert to 0.60.
I have indicated that the column should be Numeric. I thought this would make 3/5 turn into 0.60 but it does not, as nothing changes. I figured out that it only changes if I DOUBLE CLICK on the fractional value (??!?) after setting the column as a Number. Note that I change nothing in the cell, just double click and then move away.
How do I, within a macro, tell excel I want junk like 1/5 to render as 0.20?
I am creating an employee time sheet, where the hours worked will be entered
in increments as small as 15 minutes and be displayed as fractions. For
example, I would like 2.5 hours to display as "2 1/2" and 4.25 hours to
display as "4 1/4". When I choose "Fractions" in the cell formatting and
select the fraction denominator as '4', 2.5 hours displays as 2 2/4, not 2
1/2.
How do I set the formatting to display as I want?
TIA
David
For a value of 1.5, the cell format "# ???/???" produces a visual result of 1 1/2.
Can anyone think of a reason why the VB formula
FORMAT(1.5,"# ???/???") produces a result of 2 ???/???.
Previously, I've found the FORMAT command to produce exactly the results you'd expect, but it doesn't appear to like the use of ?
I've written a function to do the job but it seems like a bit of a long winded approach.
I have a spreadsheet to calculate piping offsets, center to center.
The formula in B:1 is simple. Take the length in cell A:1 and multiply
it by the square root of 2.
I then increment the length by 1/8 of an inch through cell A:180 and those
results are place in B:2 thru B:180.
The results are display to the nearest 1/16 of an inch. But if the actual
dimension is eight and one half inch, it is displayed as 8 8/16. For aesthetic
reason i wish to display the reducible fractions reduced. So that 8 8/16
is displayed as 8 1/2 inch.
I understand that i may go to each cell and individually format it accordingly
as halves
as quarters
as eights
but was wondering if there is an easier method.
Thanks in advance
Bill
My son posted the wrong question. I have mixed fractions on my worksheet that need to be displayed in textboxes on a userform. The number on the sheet is formatted as a fraction (eg. 24 4/7) but when it shows up in the textbox, it shows as a decimal. I have tried using 'Format(TextBox1.text, "# ?/?")' but this is not working because the number will then show up as "24 ?/?" and 'Format(TextBox1.text, "# ?/7")' returns "24 ?/7". My frustruation level is at a max because I simply cannot figure out what to do now and this is the most important part of the program I am developing so please help. Thank you.
I am trying to format a cell to display colored fractions. I am using the custom number format to display a green number when negative and red when positive: [Red]0.0;[Green]-0.0 No problem so far, but I also want to display the answer in fractons not decimal.
I tried [Red]0/0;[Green]-0/0 and this works for fractions less than one, but if the answer is a whole number, the result is a 1 in the denominator, and a mixed fraction displays as an improper fraction, (1 1/2 = 3/2)
Is this possible?
Thanks!
I have a question which hopefully has an easy answer.
I have a large amount of data (measurements) that I am trying to enter into excel in order to perform some basic calculations. The measurements were taken in feet-inch-fraction of an inch (i.e. 5' 2 7/8"). I have about 1500 of these measurements that I need to enter. I really dont want to convert each one into a decimal...
I was wondering if there was an easy way for me to enter the data, while still being able to perform further functions on them.
In a perfect world I would be able to enter them as a number string. For example, 50278 = 5' 2 7/8". Then I would be able to subtract another measurement from the previous. 50278 - 20234 = 30018 (5' 2 7/8" - 2' 2 3/4" = 3* 0 1/8"). This is just an idea, there is probably an easier way out there. That is where you come in...any ideas?
Hi,
I have cell c11 which displays the value either 8/4 or 4/4. I need to have cell c12 get the value that is in cell c11 but I need it to convert to the whole number that results from dividing the fraction. How can I get cell c12 to display a 2 when cell c11 is 8/4 and a 1 when cell c11 is 4/4.
Thanks.
