How to sort columns of data in Excel.  This is the same as sorting left to right.

This will change the position of entire columns of data quickly and easily.

Steps to Sort Data Left to Right in Excel

  1. Select the data that you want to sort or select a cell within that data.
  2. Go to the Data tab and click the big Sort button and NOT one of the smaller ones.
  3. In the window that opens click the Options... button.
  4. In the next window that opens, select the option Sort left to right and then hit OK.
  5. In the first window, we now need to setup the sorting.
Under where it says Row, click the drop down menu and select the row by which we want to sort.  In this case, we are sorting by Row 1.
  6. Move to the next drop down menu and select Values, or another option if that better suits your needs.
  7. Move to the last drop down menu and select how to sort the data.  In this case, we will leave it at A to Z.  Then, hit the OK button.
  8. That's it!

If you made a mistake, you can always hit Ctrl + Z to undo the sorting and start over.

Notes

If you don't select "Sort left to right" after clicking the Options button, a regular up and down sort will be performed.

Don't forget to download the accompanying sample file so you can try this out.
