size of the rest of the cells in that row/column? I cannot seem to alter
certain cells in isolation from the others. Thanks!

How can I change the size of a group of cells without changing the entire column width? Thanks guys.

Hi!

I have made a toggle button to change language between Swedish and English. Although, every time I click it, the font becomes smaller and smaller. I have tried formatting it by changing to any of the alternatives "Move and size with cells/Move but don't size with cells/Don't move or size with cells" but it makes no difference whatsoever.

Any suggestions is appreciated!

Hi there,

I have written a macro that copies cells in a column of spreadsheet (A) into a column in spreadsheet (B) and then saves off a copy of spreadsheet (A) and moves onto the next column in spreadsheet (B) and repeats the process.

Everythign works fine except for one thing - Each iteration of the loop increases in file size by about 50 kb. If I have 56 iterations, the last spreadsheets that are created have huge file sizes even though they are no different in appearance from the first spreadsheet.

The weird thing is this: If i open the workbook and save it again, the file size reduces to the original size - 400kb. Does anybody know where this phantom file size increase is coming from?

(I have set cutcopymode to false, btw)

Additionally, I clear out all the changing cells in spreadsheet (a) before filling them in with cells from the next column in (B).

Does anybody know why the file size would increase? Is there some history thats being captured by any chance?

I have a worksheet where people may enter text of various lengths. Is there a
way I can reduce the font size if the text entered is too long to be viewed
entirely in the default font size? I do not want to change the size of the
cell, or change the font size for all cells.

Is there a way to write a macro that will go throught a worksheet and add 1 to each cell's font size used in that worksheet? I have different fonts and sizes on the worksheet so i cant just select all and change it globally.

my guess is it will looksmilar to this but i am not sure how to do it:

Code:

For Each Worksheet In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
With Cells.Font
.Size = (current font size) +1
End With
Next

Hello,

I have a spreadsheet with a header row.

The data (description) in the header rows of the columns is longer than the actual data that is in the cells in the columns.

When I size the column it sizes the column to the size of the header cell.

How can I keep the header cells one size and then size the rest of the column to the size of the data in the columns.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi All!

Hey, we just ran into something interesting, and am hoping that an expert on here can help us figure out how Excel is doing this...

In a cell on a spreadsheet is a number in 12 pt. font -- if you decrease the size of the column, the size of the font is changing to show the entire number (vs. changing it to ####)... So, if the number 12345 fits in the cell perfectly in 12 pt font, and you decrease the size of the cell, the font size is changing to 8 pt font so the entire number is still visible...

How does Excel do this? What/where are the settings? We'd like to know how to do this for future implementations!

Thanks much!

Hi all. Is it possible to show gridlines in some cells and hide gridlines in others on the same worksheet? Is it also possible to isolate a row or column and change the size of selected cells without changing the size of the cells in other rows and columns?
Cheers,
JLB.
(P.S. I hope that I have posted this thread in the right section!)

For some reason, the font sizes seem to be messing up.

Size 7
Size 6
Size 5
Size 4
Size 3
Size 2
Size 1

Whoah! Size 1 is bigger than size 2 apparenly! I noticed this when a lot of signatures suddenly looked larger. Also, when I tried to adjust my signature to size 1, not only did it appear larger than size 2, but it told me that my sig can't be more than 1,000 characters... however when I adjusted it to size 2, it accepted that fine.

Edit: I'm using IE6 on Windows Server 2003 R2. Yeah, I know it is an old version, but my company refuses to update it since we use Citrix Thin-Clients.

Afternoon all,

I have inherited a spreadsheet from someone and I am trying to alter the size of the drop down menus.

Thanks

Hello,
I have created a template in Excel that contains headings that I need to
copy and paste into another Excel worksheet that I have exported data onto.

However, when I copy and paste this template that I have created in Excel
onto another Excel worksheet, the formatting such as, the size of the cells
change which takes a lot of time to correct because I have formatted the
cells on the template to "wrap the text."

Is there anyway I can "freeze" the cells so that I can copy and paste the
template onto another Excel worksheet without having to fix the cell
formatting and/or size??

I have found a HELP topic on this issue, it is called "Prevent objects from
moving and sizing with cells;" however, I cannot figure out how to get to
"Object Positioning" so I can select (I BELEIVE) "Move but don't size with
cells." Because I do want to copy and paste it but I don't want to change the
cell(s) size.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!

Hi
Excel 2002

Why does changing the font in styles effect the width of the columns/rows &
even the size a sheet is printed?

I thought it should only change the size of the row/column headers.
Is there a way to get it to do this?

TIA
Dave F.

If I have an array which is referred to by many cells, is there a way to
change all the dependant cells to refer to another array of equal size,
without going through each dependant column individually, changing the top
cell then copying down. An easy way is just to change the values in the
referenced array, but I want to avoid that if possible.

Hope that makes sense....

Hello,
I need a little help. I am trying to figure out a vba code to have the excel user only be able to view cells A1:H25, even if they try to change the size of spreadsheet in the lower right hand corner. So if the user wants to change the size of the spreadsheet, the cells A1:H25 will still be locked. I can freeze the panes to only show A1:H25, but if the user makes the spreadsheet larger, they are able to to see past the cells I want them to see. My end goal is if the user changes the size of the spreadsheet either larger or smaller, they will always see A1:H25. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Is There any way i can custommize cell size without effecting the size of corresponding row

I am trying to print a range that falls just outside of a normal A4 size.
Is there a way of scaling this range to fit the page. Withough changing the column sizes before printing(each column is diffrent size). Or will i need to load the column sizes into a array and resize for the print then back to original size from array.

cheers

I am working on a lengthy worksheet in which I have inserted comments in certain cells (and merged cells, in case that makes a difference).
The problem is when I go somewhere else to work and come back to look at my comments, sometimes they are all different sizes and all over the place. I have tried different formatting and was wondering if anyone knows which to use: Move and Size with Cells, Move but Don't Size with Cells, or Don't Move and Don't Size with Cells. Or is the problem something else entirely?

I have a table of numbers related to sizes. I'll call the row and column headers the mesurements of a 2 sided box and the numbers in the table what it costs to make that size.

Obviously, the way it would work is, you tell me what length and width you want the box to be. I would look it up in the chart and tell you the cost.

The problem is, if I want to expand my business to include decimal sizes, I don't want to create a table to for a hundred decimals per size.

Example
Given the chart below, I want to average the costs for the sizes above and below the requested size. In other words, if you wanted a box that is 2.345 x 3.00 , I want to average the costs of the cells C3:D3.

If neither measurements were whole numbers, it would have to average 4 cells.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I am trying to make uniform font size headers for multiple worksheets, where have different fonts and page sizes (one might be 35% of normal size with size 20 font, whereas another would be 45% with size 15 font- because some of the sheets have more columns and this is the only way I could think of to make the font sizes the same and looking relatively uniform). and the header contents should all be drawn from 1 cell. (phew! a mouthful!)

I created a vba script to draw the header from the one cell but the header on each page is a different size (i put them all as font 20- but some font 20's look really small and some are really big- due to the different page sizes).

I also tried making "fake" headers and footers, by inputting the cell reference into the top right cell and bottom right and left cells, and making that match the font of the rest of the page. However, since this is going to be a template, and rows and columsn may be added or deleted, the page breaks always have to be moved with any change to the page so that the headers and footers are at the very right and top/bottom.

The solution doesn't have to be simple but I have to be able to input data in the sheets and add/delete rows/columns easily after it's in place.

Is there anything I can do to make these worksheets uniform? Is this a lost cause? Thank you for your help.

I have been working on a very large Excel VBA project in Excel 2000 for many weeks. A few days ago, I brought the project up in Excel 2007 to check compatibility, made a few changes to the code (nothing specific to Excel 2007), and then moved back to Excel 2000 to finish the last bit of coding. After a couple of days of work I noticed that on a few forms that included several option buttons, the sizes of the fonts used for the captions for the buttons differed, even though the properties said that they were the same size and font. I have tried changing to different fonts and changing the font size properties for the button captions, and the font sizes will change, but when set to the same size, the font of one caption is always larger than the font of the other caption. As far as I can see, all of the properties of the different option buttons are identical. Same problem with two drop down lists on one form.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
Tim

I have 4-5 pivot tables on a single worksheet. Every time i refresh the pivot tables the size of the table shrink or expand and a lot of headers & data are hidden and then i manually select the row and column and drag and increase/decrease the size of cell. How to manually set the size of cells and freeze it so that refreshing the pivot tables don't change the size of cells.
