My company recently converted from Excel 2003 to 2007 and I'm having issues copying and pasting data from one 2007 workbook to another. Both of these workbooks started out as 2003 files, but I have since updated them to .xlsx extensions. The error I receive when clicking a single cell in a new workbook and attempting to paste the data is such:

"The information cannot be pasted because the copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following: Click a single cell, and then paste. Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste."

This was never an issue in 2003! Also, I attempted to make the columns the same size (pixels) between workbooks and that still didn't work. Does anyone have a fix for this or any advice? Your help is greatly appreciated.

In sub A I am copying from a range - range.copy

Next, in sub B I am pasting special values into one cell.

All data is fine, BUT, I find I now need the size of the pasted into area. I cannot use currentregion because it is bigger than the paste.

How can I get the size, or rows&cols of what is in the clipboard?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm trying to copy large amounts of data yet excel keeps posting the error message,

Code:

"Information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and paste area are not the same shape and size".

Is there anything I can get around this.... there are merged cells within the workbook.

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to paste 16 digit numbers into merged cells.

I have formatted the Cell as "Text" so the number doesn't get rounded off.
However, when I paste the number into the merged cell I get the prompt:

"Data on the Clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the data anyway?"

Upon choosing "OK"

The following error is reported:
"Cannot change part of a merged cell"

I know that the number can be pasted by being within the cell.

The merged cells are AX7 through BT7

Thanks

I did a search in here but didn't find an answer so here goes nothing...

I have a spreadsheet with data from A1 to H1 down to A275 to H275. I select all of it, Copy, go into the Sheet2 tab and select A1, Paste Special -> Transpose and it give me the following error message:
Quote:

The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following:
- Click a single cell, and then paste.
- Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why it's not working! I have done this many times with other spreadsheets. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, were you able to resolve it and how?

Many Thanks,
Mike

Hi I have the below code to iterate and copy/paste data.

Please Login or Register to view this content.

This works fine, but I always get a message saying:

"Data on the Clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the data anyway?"

The method completes when I click OK, but I am having to do this hundreds of time as there are a lot of files to be created.
Is there a way to stop this message?

With Thanks.

I can across your website detailing Excel automation in Delphi and
found it VERY useful. However, my current project requires a task that
isn't mentioned there or has been covered in the Delphi/Microsoft
newsgroups, yet. If you could spare me a few minutes and take a look
at my problem, I'd be most grateful.

Hello,
I'm copying data that is variable length from the clipboard into a
worksheet. I've figured out to this programatically with one slight
problem. After using ws.Paste, Excel pops up the following MessageBox:

"Data on the clipboard is not the same size and shape of the selected
area. Do you want to paste the data anyway?"

Once I click the OK button the data is pasted, but I'm trying to
hide the Excel interface and need to automate this entire task with no
user input. Is there a way to prevent this message?

I've already tried to send TExcelApplication a RETURN key press
using SendKeys after I paste, but it never gets called because program
execution is waiting for the the ws.Paste function to finish. Any
ideas?

Hello,

This is my first post here so please forgive me if i do something wrong...

I'm creating Parts Requisition Form in Excel 2007. After XLSX is filled out we will send it in email to our purchasing agent (we are tying to go green ). To speed up ordering parts many times we copy/paste original content from the WEB to save typing and error in information.
My problem is that when I copy text content from the web and paste into a excel 2007 I get message

data on the clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area.Do you want to paste data anyway?

if I click on OK

Cannot change part of a merged cell.

is there any work around this...?

so far only function I found that is almost working is to hit F2 before paste but that will keep original WEB text size not size that I have in the cell.

Thank you for your help

Hello,

My goal is to copy and paste data into another worksheet at the first blank row. This link gave me the simplest and most straightforward way to do it (I am a VBA beginner)

http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthre...t=69875&page=1

However, when I use it on my code, it says an error like "Run Time Error 1004" Information cannot be pasted because the copy area and the paste area are not the same size.

However, my data to be copied has the same number of columns as the paste area, but not necessarily the same rows. I will generate data every day, so the rows can vary. But why would this matter if the paste area is just into the next blank row with an endless amount of rows after that?

Here is my current code

Sub Macro2()

'Below calculates raw data and copies it for filtered data
Calculate
Sheets("Raw").Select
ActiveWindow.ScrollRow = 4
Range("A5:Y65536").Select
Selection.Copy

'This pastes the raw data into the designated filtered data sheets
Sheets("Filtered Data").Select
Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Select
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial (xlPasteValues)

End Sub

I am trying to copy the results of a set of sheets into a new workbook.

When I so this for the first group of cells (about 8 rows by 5 columns) it works fine, then below it I want paste a set of cells exactly the same size. When I try this it says "The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape". (Excel Mac 2011)

But they are the same size and shape, as the formatting has all been taken from the same source. How can I make it stop giving this error and just paste the stuff in I want anyway? Even if it auto-reformats the cells to fit stuff in.

All I want to do is paste special and put in the values on their own anyway, so it shouldn't make any difference.

Any thoughts?

Greetings,

I am trying to copy and paste 117,000 rows of data from one worksheet to another. The method I use is CTRL+SHIFT+END.

I get the following error:
"The information cannot be pasted because the copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape" with some lame suggestions.

I know that I can get around this issue by holding shift and then going up/down the entire worksheet, but to do so for 117,000 would be more tedious than watching most of the flashback sequences on Lost.

Any way around this?

Thanks,
Bryce

Word document provide input data which consists of a varyable number of lines
ending with paragraph mark and manual line break. Attepmting to copying the
input data into a merged cell results in "Data on the clipboard is not the
same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the data
anyway?" On clicking "OK", the paste fails with an error message "cannot
change part of a merged cell".

Can the line endings (including paragraph character) be converted into
Alt-Enter which Excel supports for manually entered multi-line data in single
and merged cells?

Yes, I know the official way to do this..but it's not working.

I select a column in worksheet 1.
I click cell A1 in worksheet 2.
I select Edit>Paste Special, click the Transpose checkbox, and select OK.
I receive this message:
"The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area
[dontcha just love the inconsistency in capitalization?] are not the same
size and shape. [of course not--i'm transposing!!] Try one of the following:
"* Click a single cell, and then paste. [which is what I did that didn't work]
"* Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape, and then paste."

Since neither of these worked, the next question is, why the @#$#$ not?

TIA,

Hello, I have a problem when i run the next macro when in Sheet "Intrari" is only one row. I recive the error :

Run-time error ‘1004’: The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following: click a single cell, and then paste. Or Select a rectangle that’s the same size and shape, and then paste

With two or more rows it's works fine.

Code:

Sub mutatarhivaintrari()
'
' Macro
'

    Sheets("Intrari").Select
    Range("A1").Select
    Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select
    Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
    Selection.Copy
    Sheets("Intrari Arhive").Select
    Range("A1").Select

ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
Do While Not IsEmpty(ActiveCell)
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
Loop
     ActiveSheet.Paste

End Sub

Thanks a lot!

"The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area are not the same size and shape. Try one of the following:

-Click a single cell, and then paste

-Select a rectangle that's the same size and shape and then paste"

I need to bypass this message. How?!?

I've tried both of the options given (single cell and rectangle) and neither have worked. I've tried the formatting tool which also give the same error message. Help!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to copy a workbook sheet with around 150,000 rows to a new workbook which is blank. I seem to get the following error though:

The information cannot be pasted because the Copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape. Try one of thge following: Click a single cell, and then paste select a rectablge thats the same size and shape and then paste

...

Is there an easier way to do this because it would take a good couple of minutes to select 150,000 rows in the new workbook.

Thanks

In Excel 2000 I would receive the following warning message whenever I would
paste data to an area that was not the same length as the copy area. The
warning message was "the copy area and the paste area are not the same size
and shape."
In both excel 2000 and 2003 I am using the "paste special value" function.
The warning was useful for me because it made sure I was copying / pasting
data to the correct area. The problem is now that I am working with excel
2003 that functionality seems to gone. In excel 2003 I no longer receive the
warning message that says that the copy area is not the same as the paste
area. Whenever I do a copy and paste in exel 2003 the information is pasted
regardless of how many cells I select the pasted area to be. Is their a way
to turn this warning message on in excel 2003?

I get this error when I copy the entire range of one sheet to another empty sheet.

Why is that?

The Information cannot be pasted because the copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape.

????

I'm really pulling my hair out on this, cause this shouldn't be difficult.

I have two sheets, a "Data" and "Display" sheet. I'm simply trying to copy the data from "Data" to "Display". When I get to the following code:
Code:

shtData.Range("A2", Range("A2").End(xlDown).End(xlToRight).Address).Copy _
        Destination:=shtDisplay.Cells(7, 2)

I get a runtime error 1004 - information can't be pasted because copy and paste area are not the same size/shape. Doesn't VBA know that Cells(7, 2) is only the top-right cell of the range I'm trying to paste? I can't define the size of the paste range because the copy range size is going to be different every time. I swear I've done this before without issue. Is this error really caused by range-size issues, or could it have a problem with switching from one sheet to another?

This project is due to my boss tomorrow, and I'm going to look really dumb if this is why I can't deliver. Any help is most appreciated.

I'm pasting columns of data from one spreadsheet into another spreadsheet. The first several dozen times I did this, there were no problems. Then Excel decided to stop letting me paste. In other words, I select the data from spreadsheet 1, hit CTRL+C, go to spreadsheet 2, select where I want the data to be pasted and hit CTRL+V. This doesn't work, however. The selection box expands to the size of the original data (if I was copying over 31 cells, for example, the area I paste into spreadsheet 2 is still 31 cells), but all the cells are empty.

When I open the clipboard in both spreadsheets, I see my copied data from spreadsheet 1, and I can paste it into spreadsheet 2 by selecting the beginning cell and then selecting the required data in the clipboard. However, I don't want to do this, as it's a pain, and I have alot of data to manipulate. This has happened several times before and I don't understand why it's happeneing.

I hope this is clear and someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance!

Hello I am trying to run a code where a file have 8 tabs and data needs to be paste in sheet8 from all the sheet. on the sheet7 data is not getting pasting and an error is poping up says. run time error 1004 vba the information cannot be pasted because the copy area and the paste area are not the same size and shape
i have cross checked there is no merge cells whichi probably would be the reason but there is no merged cells.
Here is the code i am using.

Sub CUT_PASTE_LOOP3()
Dim wkb As Workbook, TKB As Workbook

Selection.End(xlDown).Offset(1, 0).Select
ActiveCell.PasteSpecial
End If

PLease help if anyone can.

I'm quite new to VBA, but I'm developing a spreadsheet with a macro. On a worksheet, I have one cell used for entry of a text string. It's a merged cell. The macro returns a result based off of what is entered into that merged cell. The easiest and most common method of entering data into that cell is copying the string onto the clipboard from an outside app. and pasting it into the merged cell. However, upon doing so, the user always gets the message, "Data on the Clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the data anyway?" Upon clicking the OK button, the user gets another message, "Cannot change part of a merged cell," and the data is not entered. (First of all is there a way to address this?)
To work around this, I figured I'd just use an activeX textbox control inserted onto the worksheet (a userform is too much for the purposes of this macro and the users who will use it). I can size the textbox to the length it needs to be, and theres not "merged-ness" to overcome. However, when the user strikes the enter key, nothing happens. The cursor just stays there. Isn't the enter key supposed to "enter" the data? (Second, is there a way to fix this?)
I'm guessing i'll have to program some code in the keypress event for the enter key. Well, what do I tell it to do? Losefocus? just execute the macro? copy the textstring to the cells beneath the textbox? Move focus to the worksheet? I'm not sure what to tell excel to do when the enter key is pressed.

Thank you for your help!

Where I work most people are still using Excel 2000. However a small number have had 2003 installed recently.

Previously if you tried to copy and paste data to an area which was different in size (such as from an 8x8 cell grid to a 6x6 grid) you would get an error message saying that the copy area and paste areas were different size and shape.

This was a useful control so that if something went wrong in the source data with rows or columns missing it gave a warning.

I have found that those people using 2003 do not get any warning and worse, in my opinion, Excel automatically expands/contracts the paste area to fit the copy area.

Is there any way of restoring the original behaviour so that it alerts the user to the potential problem. Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

Vince

Hi

I am trying to copy and paste some data from one worksheet into another. The source worksheet has 1 row of heading and destination worksheet has 4 rows of headings.

I used following code to copy and paste the data

InputWb.Sheets("Sales").UsedRange.Offset(1, 0).Resize(Rows.Count - 1).Copy

OutputWb.Sheets("Data").Range("A5").PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False

While doing so i get an error saying "could not copy as copy and paste area are not same in size."

I didnt have this error until this morning and the macro was working properly until last night on my sample worksheet. Today when i transfered the macro to another file to use the macro i started getting this error.

Any ideas?

Oh Ghod Excel is driving me nuts and the net and excel help is being no help.
I'm about to *** my hair out so hopefully you good people can help before I lose my mind.

I'm an Excel noob but I'm not a complete idiot...let me explain:

I have an Excel file with 5 columns and 20,000 rows.

I have html text that I want to paste into a column for each cel in the range of 20,000. So for c1 I want this text, c2, c3, c4 etc.

Sounds simple, right?
So I take this raw HTML, copy and paste it in notepad to remove any formatting, and then highlight the entire column and try to paste. Every time I do I get the following message:

Data on the clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the Data anyway?

If I choose yes, the text is pasted ONCE and each line of text takes up however many rows of text are in the code.

AND to top it all off, Excel is turning the text into html! I don't want that- I just want raw text!

Can someone please help me???
