Hi everybody,

Can I insert a drop down menu in to an excel spreadsheet into which I can type one or more letters and the menu will scroll down to that entry rather than having to scroll every time I wish to insert an item into a cell? The menu I have at the moment reverts back to the beginning for every entry, it's quite a long list, so a lot of scrolling!!
Your help will be appreciated as ever.

Hello Everyone... I need some serious help as I need to put together a report for work.

What I want to do is this:

Create a drop menu. The options within the drop menu to be links (either to another Excel worksheet within the same workbook, or a WORD document).

I know how to create a drop menu, that is simple, but am not sure how to do the hyperlink aspect.

It seems when I actually insert>hyperlink onto the actual text of the drop menu (on the other sheet where i created the drop menu data), the hyperlink is not active in the actual drop menu itself.

Can somebody please help me?

What I am trying to do is create a markbook which contains informaiton about which type of course a student is doing and their grades for each of the units, at the moment I have set it up so that it has a drop down menu with the names of the course and drop down menu's with the possible grades for each unit.
But each time I add a new student I have to set up this new row with the drop down menu's (I have about 20 drop down menu's).
Is there any way of automating the process of creating the drop down menu as this would save a bit of time when adding new students.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Don't know if this is possible.
What I want is a drop down menu within a drop down menu.
I can make a drop down menu using data/validation, which is fine.
But then I want what would be a sub menu.
I have a list of teams and players, I would like to click on the drop down menu for team A and that then brings up a sub menu of the players that I can choose from.

Any help very much appreciated.

I have a job info spreadsheet I am working on. In the job status field I want to make a drop down menu which shows the history of the job status field (going back 4 weeks, a date per week, so 4 records in the drop down menu). What I want is to be able to choose a date from the drop down menu and be able to read what the job status is for that date. I have figured out how to include the job status info into the drop down menu but it requires time and steps I dont want to explain to everybody that will be using it. Is there an easier way to access the info in the drop down menu? A link from the dates in the menu to another cell or something like that? Any help would be appreciated!

I want to add a new top level entry on the Main Menu that will run a
macro. Doing so should allow me to have a menu with the new entry each
time I open Excel. I've done this before under Excel 97 but when I try
to do it under 2003 I run into the following problem

I right click on the Main Menu and choose Customize. I then select
Macro from Categories and drag a Custom Menu Item from Commands to the
menu. I then rename it and assign a macro. At least, I believe this is
the way I did it under 97 years ago.

The menu item works just as expected.

However, when I exit Excel and then open Excel again, the recently added
menu item appears briefly but disappears shortly and the menu is as it
was before I changed it.

Can someone suggest what I might being doing wrong?

Thank you.

Looking for a wee bit of help.

Is there a way of creating a dop down menu in a cell ?.

In cell B2 I have a Data Validation List/Drop Down Menu thingy (for lack of better vernacular). I want it to reference one of 2 possible lists based on the information in cell A1.

For examble, if cell A1 says 'Left', I want the cells referenced in the Drop Down Menu in B2 to be C1:C10. If cell A1 says 'Right', I want the cells referenced in the Drop Down Menu in cell B2 to be D1:D7.

I have already tried using an if statement where you type the range you want to use in the Data Validation Menu when creating the drop down menu but that doesn't work. If anyone needs anymore clarification let me know.

Love the board and all the help it gives. Thanks ahead of time to anyone who takes time reading this thread.

Thread Title =Drop down menu movement

I have a work sheet that has multiple drop down menus. Is there any type of code or formula that will not let the user to move from drop down menu to drop down menu until they select something in that menu?

How do I create drop down menus within a drop down menu. For example, I want to be able to click on a drop down menu of categories then when I click on a category another menu pops up, then when I select one of those menu items another menu pops, so on and so forth until I get to the sub item I need to have entered into a cell.

I did a big book to calculate proyects in the way that I have a big sheet with all the articles and in the another sheet where I add items, I do it through a drop down menu where I click on the item of my choice. Of course, since the list of items got really long, now it lasts too long to scroll to find the article you need. Well, what would be useful is to be able to have search for eg. for the word 'lamp' to be able to choose between the lamps that we have. But I don't find any way to combine the drop down menu with the search. Do you have any ideas?

I have a drop down menu with a list of names in it. The only way to access any name is to scroll down through all the names, which are in alphabetic order.

How do I enable the properties of this menu so that to get the name Trevor, I type in Tr, and the cursor drops to the first word starting with starting with Tr, and if I type Tre, then it moves to the first Tre ?

I would appreciate any suggestions and ideas

Is there any way to control the size of the drop down menu that contains the entries? Basically I have a static number of entries that are entered for sheet navigation. The number of entries are about three more than the default size of the drop down display. A scroll bar is then put on the edge of the menu. Normally, this would be fine, but I would rather have all the values displayed on the drop down rather than making the user scroll to see something at the bottom or top. Any thoughts?

i know that this is probably really easy but im a newbie. i searched all over the forums for this. anyways.
i have a drop down menu and i have a cell on the screen that displays whatever the drop down menu says. now the drop down menu has initials like MD812 or DG811 that needs to be like that becuase it fills in initails in another spot for an issue or a pickup of money. What i want to happen is when i have the drop down menu on lets say MD812 it would read Michael Diedrich instead of MD812.
like If the drop down menu equals DG811 than display Dave Gault and so on and so on. anybody get what im saying?

I want to add a drop down menu, that you can scroll and choose the choice of three. For example: I want to put on a form the type of account - Cash, Lease, Purchase. I want to be able to have a scroll bar on the right and then choose from one of those three. I tried going into the forms toolbox and adding a combo box, but it only allowed me to enter one text and the arrow didn't move up or down. Please help!

Whenever I click on a word in the top menu line (i.e., File, Edit, View, Insert, etc.) a drop down menu does not appear. Also, if I right click on a cell there is no menu either. I see a very faint outline of a menu box, but there is nothing else on the screen. Any ideas of what the problem is?

I'm working on a spreadsheet where I want to have a main data entry worksheet that can link to individual worksheets for each member of my team. I've renamed each worksheet to the name's of each person on my team. On my data entry page, I'd like to have a drop down menu with each member of my team's name in there. After picking a name, I have the datafields set to drop down menu's where the inputer chooses a Y, or an N. After inputing that data, plus filling in a date cell, I'd like to simply hit a button and have that info transfer to that particular individuals worksheet, who's name I selected from the drop down menu, and autopopulate the proper fields.

I have zero VBA experience. Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings:
I think this is very long shot, but I've just got to ask.

Is there any way to insert a cell value from a specific work book into a menu item, instead of showing the menu name.
For example:
Custom menu,
then Menu name "Show next Number",
then Formula to show actual number.

I know I can link the menu to any workbook, but if the above were possible, it would actually be (slightly) more efficient for the end user.

I'm creating an excel document to record all the statistics from a driving championship but I've run into a problem, this is hard for me to explain but I'll do my best...

On a worksheet called 'DriverStats', I have a drop down menu made up of all of the drivers names, and depending on the driver selected in the drop down menu all of the stats on this worksheet change appropriately.

But, I now want another worksheet 'Tables', which displays stats for several drivers together. If I make a reference to the 'DriverStats' worksheet, then of course the value returned depends on whoever happens to be selected in the drop down menu.

Is there a way of referring to a cell on the 'DriverStats' worksheet, AND tell excel to return the value based on a specific selection from the drop down menu on that worksheet?

I hope that is clear heh

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave.

I'm working on a fantasy football spreadsheet and I want to use a drop down menu to do side by side matchup comparisons.
A2:A13 I have the team names, and from Columns B to N are their respective stats.
Is it possible to have a drop down menu, and based on which team I select, it show stats from B,C,D,E...N below it?

I've only gotten as far as creating a drop down menu. Is there a lookup function specific to this type of situation? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

So I have created a drop down menu that is grabbing names out of a list on a second sheet. The problem is that there are way too many names in the drop down menu and it not be alphabetical makes finidng a specific name annoying. I cannot sort the names on the worksheet so I was wondering if there is any way to do so within the drop down menu.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

OK, I believe this is the right part of the forum to ask this!

So, I have setup a worksheet with multiple drop down menu's, all with different available options to choose from. If I go to the 1st drop menu and select say option 2, is there a way I can assign a dollar value to option 2 so that when I select that option, it posts the dollar value next to the drop menu? Then go to the 2nd drop menu select say option 4 or whatever, and do the same with the value.

That way at the end of the list of drop menu's I have a total of what the options that I have chosen for this particular piece to have and have a running total of what it costs?

To get the drop menu's I just listed a bunch of options for question 1, then went to data, validation, list, and selected those options. Then did the same and so on for other options.

Thank You,
-Matt
