How Do I Make Multi Line Graphs?

Guys, I am having such a hard time making this graph. This graph I'm making is a multi line graph with 4 lines.

I am given 4 unknown gases each in a separate column with their two values for Temperature and Volume. But the main problem I am having is that, I do not know how to make it a multi line graph all on one graph because each unknown has different x values ( temperature ) and different y values ( volume ).

I don't know how to set up my cells for this.

Here is a short sample of the info I have on my chart that I need to graph.

eg.

Gas A
Temp,Volume
20,1950
-40,1530
-110,1095
-180, 650

Gas B
Temp,Volume
42,1300
-25,1100
-60,750
-100, 5

So you see, I am still very unfamiliar with excel. And as I showed above, both unknowns that I must graph have different x values.

With some samples I found on the internet, I was able to make a decent double line graph when the x-values are the same. But, as I am repeating too many times, all my values are different.

Please can someone help?

Is this possible to do in excel? I have a 3d graph created using (x,y,z) values in the form of a table. Now I want an estimate of the volume of that graph, something similar to calculating the integral of a 3d graph (area below the graph).

I need to make a bar graph as background, with a line graph to indicate another value.

basically I've got these three tables:

X-axis
31
32
33
34
35

Y-axis, in bar graph form
27,109
22,024
15,771
25,699
17,828

Y-axis (would prefer axis on right hand side of graph), line or singular points marked on the above bars
(The scale will be different ofcourse - 30 thousand to 5 makes a big difference, however how the scales are compared (like 6000:1) doesn't really matter)
3
1
2
4
1

I want these values combined in one graph if this is possible.
Could someone help me out here?

I can do the bar graph, however how do I add the last 5 values in the graph?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I need help creating a specific line graph. What I'm trying to do is graph results from an experiment (measuring the volume vs mass of an object in different amounts). So how I'm trying to graph it is this: Put the volume on the y-axis and the mass on the x-axis, then put in the results accordingly. So for one point say the object had a mass of 20 and a volume of 40, it would be on 20 on the x-axis and 40 on the x-axis. The problem is, when I try to graph this I cannot change the x-axis to a dependent variable (it always comes up as values like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Can anyone help me?

Goal:
To over lay two charts, 1) a line or bar graph of average monthly temperatures for various cities; 2) a floating bar graph to represents a specific target range of temperature. To get this specific range for 2, I use a stacked column graph and delete the lower value.

My Problem:
When I select all the data (#1 and 2 above) to make the chart, I can't separate the two; the closest I can get is stacked or clustered column chart. What I need, however, is a stacked (#2) column graph (so I can delete the lower value) and a separate, overlaid graph (#1) for various cities' ave monthly temp (to see how they measure compared to the target range, #2). I can't simply drag a separate graph over the other, as the vertical axis values are different.

I'm using a Mac OS, MS Office '08 and can't seem to do this....when I do it excel takes all the data and puts them in a "clustered column" graph. I can't split the two up. That is, I want one

any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This should be easy to do but I can't figure it out.

I have two sets of data I'm trying to put in a line graph. They both have the same x-axis which is "date". And both sets of data even have the same values for date.

The y-axis is temperature and this is the only point in which they differ. However, when I graph in a series, only one set of data has the proper y-axis values. The other one is on the graph but it is not plotted at the right temperature points. How do I get both graphs to graph with the right y-axis values?

I have attached the chart.

Hi,
I have 3 different things that I want to graph vs. time on the same graph. I wanted to do a line graph but I would have to have three different y-axes for each set of data. Is is possible to graph all three in an intelligent way on a line graph? Or is there another graph that would work better?

I have created a pivot graph. It is a line graph, but often, but not all the time, when I go and refresh the graph data either on the graph or the corresponding pivot table, the graph turns into a column graph. This is Excel 2000. Is this an Excel glitch, or is there a way I can fix this so the graph stays a line graph? I have already written a macro that goes through each of the graphs and changes the colors and line weights. Perhaps I should build in to the macro some way of having the graphs refresh first, convert the graphs to line graphs whether they are or not, and then change the colors and weights. All the same, if there is an easier solution, I'm listening. Thanks as always,

Hello again,

I just joined this forum and everyone has been extremely helpful! I am back with another question. I am trying to create a 3-axis graph, combining a stacked column graph with a line graph above. As for the column graph, the X-Axis is labeled "Year" with 2010-2013. The stacked bar graph represents the number of transactions that took place in each county for a given year (Counties stacked on top of one another, each represented by a different color.) The Y-Axis label is currently "number of transactions". I would like to plot total sales volume above the stacked column graph as a line. There will be one line for each county, each data point representing the total sales volume for that county in a given year. I would like to make the other Y-Axis label "sales volume". Does this make sense? I am having trouble uploading examples.

Below is the table I have used to create the stacked column graph, which works perfectly. I just can't figure out where to add the sales volume figures for each county to get it to plot above in a line.

County 2013 2012 2011 2010
Los Angeles 4 14 15 11
Orange 0 3 0 6
Riverside 1 0 0 0
San Bernardino 0 3 0 0
San Diego 0 3 1 0
Ventura 0 0 2 1
Totals 5 23 18 18

Below is the table I am using to create the line graph, this also works perfect. Any help would be much appreciated!

County 2013 2012 2011 2010
Los Angeles $314,550,000 $787,005,909 $932,985,440 $653,238,960
Orange $0 $139,900,000 $0 $375,600,000
San Bernardino $0 $213,475,000 $0 $0
San Diego $0 $253,850,000 $80,400,000 $0
Riverside $58,000,000 $0 $0 $0
Ventura $0 $0 $130,100,000 $81,500,000

This is probably a very easy question - but I can't seem to find this exact scenario in the forums or get it to work for me in Excel with trial and error.

My problem is this:

I want to have a graph with 3 non-contiguous sources of data. (No problem in theory, I just need to CTRL click the ranges)

The catch, is that one of my data series should always have a "zero" placeholder existing in the middle range. I would like this to be hard coded into the reference, and not rely on referencing a blank/zero range on a worksheet.

What I have right now is the following First and Last contiguous ranges:
=('Volume & Opex Graph Data'!$R$12:$AC$12,'Volume & Opex Graph Data'!$AD$12)

What I want to get is something like the following:
=('Volume & Opex Graph Data'!$R$12:$AC$12,{0},'Volume & Opex Graph Data'!$AD$12)

However, whenever I put "0", (0), {0}, '0', Excel always gives me an error. What's the correct syntax to accomplish this?

Hi Mr. Excel,

I would like to plot a graph with a line whose width changes over time.

For exemple the level of the line would be the price of a stock and the width of the line would indicate the volume of traded stock.

I thought about ploting two lines and coloring the area between the two. Does anyone know if such function exist ?

(the graph is real-time, so the process has to be automatic)

Thanks

The question is simple, but I've tried long enough to know I won't find an answer myself.
Here it is : when I trace a line graph, if I put (in the graph values range)cells that contain formulas and whose result is zero or blank (i.e. sales for future periods of time), I get a line in the graph dropping down to zero.

Now, I would like that line to STOP at the last "non-zero" value in the data range, instead of dropping down to zero.
So that new values are shown in the graph only when the formulas' results become "non-zero" or "non-blank".

Is it possible? Have I made myself clear enough?
Thanks!

Hi All,

One of my collegues has just stumped me with a graph question.

He has a basic graph with Values on the Y-axis, Months on the X-axis and a Line 'Target' line across the middle (also on the Y-axis)

The problem is that the 'Target' line does not reach the edges of the graph as it plots to the middle of the first and last bar (ie where the 'value' is plotted)

Is there any way of extending these lines?

does this make any sense!

TIA

Dave

Hi Everyone!
I have a question about making a line graph with a phase line. I know how to make a graph, but I can't seem to figure out how to add the dotted phase line vertically down within the graph. I need it for a class assignment, and the teacher swears that she can do it in excel. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I just created a graph for a row of data. Nothing major, just a line graph trending from 12 points of data in a row. Let's say row A.

So I have a graph that corresponds to row A, is there a way to make a new graph that pulls all the same data from row B, and row C and so on and so forth easily?

I feel like there is a simple solution to this and I'm just not familiar with it. Obviously I have to do this for over 40 rows of data, each one getting it's own graph, so I'm trying to figure out the short cut, rather than chart each range by hand over and over.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi everyone. I was wondering anyone out there could help my with my problem.

I have this line graph and a known y value. With the following information, I want to determine the x value. In addition i want to label the unknown and draw a line to the slope. Is it possible to do so. If so what do i need to do?

my graph is attached below.

I can't seem to figure out a meaningful graph. Should I delete the percentages and make it a bar graph? How can I combine the two?

It's a month by month trend of Volume and % mix between three teams. I've tried all the traditional graphs and nothing seems to fit.

Any advice and or help/support would be great! One mind (mine) isn't enough it seems.

Hey everyone,

I have created some charts for my work and one of them is a line chart that spreads across one year with values for each month. Well they want the graph to always show one month ahead of where we are out. So there is actuals in for Sep. but then the line graph drops all the way to 0 for Oct. I don't want to have the graph bottom out when there is a zero. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is there a way to have points connected by a line but not connect if it goes to 0?

My example is I have Fiscal Year 2007 sales graphs with sales going across. I obviously don't have any May sales yet (since we only close each month) so May sales are 0. On the line graph and any other graph showing a line will connect the lines up until April and then drop to 0 in May.

This is completely a visual thing for presentations, but it doesn't look so good. I have to manually change the parameters every month if I want the line graph to stop connecting when it goes to 0, I just limit the Source Data Values EVERY MONTH. Just wondering if there is a better way than changing all my graph value ranges every month.

Hello!

Lets say you have a graph showing profit (%) in trading dependant on the number of trades. But you know for sure that the invested amount that is being traded is going to be recapitalised several times and you want to show that on the graph (the profit % wont really change, but a checkmark or something like that to show when extra volume was put). My idea is to just point out on the graph where we added for eg. $5k (which trade already had +5k in volume). If somebody has a better idea please do tell.

Thanks

Hi all,

Hopefully, someone can help me as I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and can't seem to get it right.

I have a XY Scatter graph of data with Time on my X Axis and Position on my Y Axis. The X and Y Axis have the appropriate values along the bottom and side of the graph as you would typically find, such as 1 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec etc). However, when I add a trendline to this graph, the values along the X and Y axis move into the graph and so it makes it very difficult to read. In other words, instead of having 1 sec, 2 sec etc at the bottom of the graph, underneath the x axis line, it is now on top of that x-axis line on the actual graph. I can't seem to figure out what is causing this and how to fix it. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Edited to Update: The problem has been fixed. The minimum value on the Y axis was auto set to -.5 and was causing the other X axis to jump onto the graph when adding a trendline.

I am doing a chemistry lab and was told to make a graph either by hand or using a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel. I was told to enter the values for the temperature on the x-axis and the values for the volume on the y-axis. I have been stuck on how to go about doing this forever. Any help?

I have a line graph with the following values below. x axis is date and y is Gigabyte.

How do I stop these zero values from appearing on the graph?

22/07/10 0.00 29/07/10 0.00 05/08/10 217.15 12/08/10 217.18 19/08/10 217.23 26/08/10 217.27 02/09/10 217.33 09/09/10 217.50 16/09/10 217.61

Thanks,

Adam

I'd like to create a graph where instead of lines going diagonally from point to point they change at a right angle. I guess I'd call it a step-wise line graph. Essentially this would be a bar graph at 0% gap width with only the top border represented.

Thank you ahead of time.
