Hello again.

I am using 2003 and recently changed my PC's motherboard. After a week
I am now experiencing a situation where after invoking copy command XL just freezes
and refuse to move and I have to do a Alt Control Delete to re-open my
workbook again.

What do you guys think the fault could be? Is it the motherboard or
do I have to reformat the whole system again. It is so frustrating to
redo my work over and over again.

Thanks

I work for an IT company who build their own PC's. And we use a simple Excel 2003 spreadsheet to piece-together and price-up PC's for retail, I've attached an example of the spreadsheet for you to see. It uses basic formulas so we can see at-a-glance things like VAT figures, margin, profit etc. Each PC we sell is contained within one Excel file, and each PC has it's own Workbook tab.

The problem I want to solve is whenever we change a component or price, we have to do each system manually, which gets very repetetive and time consuming.

What I'd like to be able to do is change the price of, let's say, the motherboard, and have the price be reflected across each of the PC's using that same motherboard on each seperate tab. This same system would apply when we change a product name, product ID etc.

How would I achieve this?

(SEE ATTACHED FILE)

I've searched thru the board but can't find a solution to my problem.

I've got a spreadsheet that uses about 2200 rows and about 15 columns. However, when I try to insert a column, it freezes up the application. My assumption is that this is caused by the fact that there are in excess of 65,000 rows. When I try to highlight those 63,000 rows and delete them, the system freezes up as well.

These excess rows are unnecessary and I'm sure add to the file size.

Running Windows XP with Excel 2003.

Hi Guys

Am hoping someone can help me with a huge problem we are having. Basically all our workbooks are saved in 2003, recently some of us have started using 2007 and are continuing to save data in 2003. The problem is when we go to reopen these workbooks in 2003 versions of Excel we are getting the error message in the subject line with the result that files will either not open or will open with all formatting removed, meaning we have to redo the entire workbook or reformat all data. There is no way that we could be up to the 4,000 format limit. some of the workboojks are quite small maybe a few hundred formats.
I have tried Open and Repair, opening in Open Office (works sometimes only) but would prefer to get to the root of the problem- is there anything that can be done? Different version we can save in that can still be opened by 2003 users?

Appreciate any help that you can provide

Hello all!

I've created a nifty XLS file which is a system configurator. At the moment, i've designed it with data validation and it works like a champ. However, for aesthetics, i've been told the dropdown boxes must be visible at all times and so i'm trying to do this with Combo Boxes or List Boxes and just can't get it to work. Here's the way I have the configurator done..

User selects a motherboard from a dropdown in Box A1. Based on the selection in Box A1, i have a range named "A1&"CPU" so that the correct Processors show up as a dropdown in box A2. Then based on the motherboard and processor, i have the correct heatsink dropdown in box A3 which is a range named "A2&heatsink". So, in the data validation dropdowns, it says "=indirect(A1&"CPU)" and for the other one it'll say "=indirect(A2&"heatsink")". This works fantastic the way it's designed. I have a gazillion named ranges so i'd really prefer not to have to redo all the data and range names to get this to work.

How, in the "listfillrange" can i have it accept my "=indirect" statements? I try it and it zaps it out. I've found other threads on here that address this, but I have not seen an actual solution. If it's via VBA somehow, i'm willing to try it.

Many thanks to all your help in advance!

Hi,

I created a VLOOKUP table in Column D for rows D2:D10 and would like to write a sum formula in cell D11 which adds up the values for this range. Because N/A is present in some of the cells due to the VLOOKUP formula, it will not generate a sum value. Is there a way to write the Sum formula, so it ignores the NA and provides a value for cells which display a numerical value?

On occasion, when I open Excel, my pointer will appear with an icon attached to it such as a page with the end turned down, or as a circle with line drawn through it. If I try to move around within the worksheet, it selects every cell I touch and does not allow me to enter any info. It virtually freezes in that state. IF I go to task manger, its says Excel is using 100% of my CPU.
This is on my work pc via my network. They have tried uninstalling it, then reinstalling. No one else is having this issue.

Please help

Wife managed to fry the desktop on Friday so I now need a new one (desktop that is!). I built this computer 4 years ago (and changed motherboard/processor about 4 months ago which has now gone up in smoke) and I now have to decide do I just get an off-the-shelf model (eg like a Dell) or do I build one again. The build was something I really looked forward to originally but it was made stressful at the time by me having a dud motherboard and dud memory (both of which I got replaced at no cost to me, but still).

So, what would others recommend? Pre-built or self-build?

I have a worksheet that is quite formula heavy, the main datasheet has a bunch of lookup formulas that gets info from a couple of reports. Recently I added two worksheets that use array formulas like the one below (total about 50 of these formulas as to avoid using the pivot whenever I update the reports, graphs and tables);

=SUM(('CYF Spend'!$F$2:$F$65536)*('CYF Spend'!$D$2:$D$65536=A5)*('CYF Spend'!$G$2:$G$65536"No")*('CYF Spend'!$C$2:$C$65536=$A$2))

The problem is that Excel now freezes when I try to save the worksheet (almost sure due to workbook being calculated on save).

Changed the setting to manual calculation and it can be saved, but now it freezes whenever I try to change it back to automatic calculation.

Anyone knows what the problem might be?

Thanks for any help

Every time I try to enter a formula into Excel 2003 either typing directly into the formula bar or cell it freezes and I have to force it to shut down.......bit of a novice so any help / comments / suggestions greatly appreciated!!

I have an Excel 2002 workbook which contains about 25,000 queries and Excel can't handle this and freezes when I open the workbook. I've tried to disable automatic updating and calculation but I can't get it to open anyway. Is there a workaround? I'm not interested in the data, I need access to my VBA modules in that workbook.

Hi all,

I like to have a VBA code for below mentioned example

If I purchase a motherboard that uses a Hex-Core Processor (I think that is the proper term) and max out the Memory on the motherboard, will that enable me to process extremely large files in Excel or Access, just for example.

I have files with a Million plus records and they are just going to keep growing. I need to be able to handle the data processing without waiting 20-30 minutes for a formula to calculate.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Not sure if this is the best newsgroup, but if there's a better one, I hope
someone will tell me.

My OS is Win98SE and MS critical/security updates are kept up-to-date. For the
last few days, my computer has been freezing occasionally. When it freezes, the
mouse still moves the cursor, but nothing else works (not even Ctrl-Alt-Del), so
that a reboot is necessary. The only thing that causes this freeze EVERY time
is trying to open Excel. It freezes when the initial small Excel display comes
on the screen. Is there anything in Excel that might be causing this? All
ideas gratefully received.

hey guys, i have an excell file which i am currently building for a custom computer shop.

my tables are set out like this on my stock sheet:

A-----------------------------B

MOTHERBOARD -------- GRAPHIC CARD TYPE

ASUS HTRRT400 ----- AGP

ASUS Hrttt700 ------ PCI EXPRESS

GRAPHIC CARD ------ GRAPHIC CARD TYPE

RADEON 3000 ---- AGP

RADEON 4000 ---- PCI EXPRESS

there are more values in each table but this is just for example.

I have made an invoice sheet where you click on a combo box and select a motherboard, lets say i clicked on ASUS HTRRT400 which only supports AGP Graphics cards. I then have another combo box for graphics card. I would like the graphics card combo box only to display the graphics cards that are compatible with the motherboard selected. In this case i would like the combo box to show all AGP graphics cards. can anyone tell me how i would go about doing this please?

sorry if i did not set the tables out right or this is in the wrong section

Hello,

I have a multipage form that I'm using to create a wizard that accepts data from the active workbook via a refedit box, however, when I try to execute the entire form freezes at runtime. The editor will bring up the workbook but the entire workbook freezes. I cannot click any of the buttons on the form, exit the form, input the range into the refedit box, or even click on any cells in the worksheet. Everything was working perfectly fine until I started adding command buttons to other pages of the multipage form, but no code has been added. I don't even have code to link the pages together, all I did was add command buttons and change the names on them. I'm having a hard time believing this is what's causing excel to freeze up, but I haven't done anything else. I've checked my loops and they are fine. I've also gone back to another copy and deleted everything on the other pages and left only page 1, but this is still failing... any suggestions as to what is making excel crash?

I have a workbook that I send out every week and our consultants forecast their hours for the next week and send back. I used to be able to copy the cells and paste normally into my workbook and it would work fine, but then the workbook started freezing when I tried to save it and I had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete out of Excel (Escape did not cancel the save). Whether I copy and paste normally or as values doesn't seem to matter. Has anyone run across this issue or know how to solve it? I am running Excel 2007, but the workbook is saved as an xls since not everyone at my company has upgraded. Thanks.

Hi All,

1. I have created a workbook in excel 2000.
2. In that, I have placed a command button from control toolbox.
3. On clicking that button it should unhide another sheet, after user enters correct password
4. This functionality works fine in excel 2000 and 2007 also.
5. But when I open the same workbook in excel 2003, the command button is not allowing to click. It looks like it is in design mode.
6. When tried to open the properties of the command button, excel is not identifing it as a control in that sheet.
7. I have attached the workbook for your reference.

How to make it working in excel 2003 also??????????

Thanks in advance.

Hi! Seasons Greetings!
In MS-excel 2003, I have written macros for different actions on a work sheet. For every action I am storing the previous and current values of the affected range in an array for a later undo and/or redo of the macro actions. At the end of every macro that are invoked by an event on the sheet I am invoking the Application.Onundo method like

Application.Onundo "undo .... action", "undo_procedure"

to enable the Edit-> undo command and it works fine.

And at the end of I am calling same method like

Application.Onundo "undo .... action", "undo_procedure"

to enable the Edit-> undo command for the second time so that I can undo the previous actions of macros but it doesn't work. The Edit -undo command is not enabled again. Could anyone help me here please?

Also I would like to know how to enable the Edit-> redo command.

P.S.: The procedure, undo_procedure, reads the array to restore the old values in the affected range and writes them to the respective places.

Thanks,
Vijaya.

Hi,

I have a workbook that I developed in Excel 2002 that uses does a lot of statistical computation and numerical recursion.

Whenever I try and open the file in Excel 2003, the file seems to go into an endless loop and just freezes the application. I've seen this on three different machines.

Is there some setting in Excel 2003? I don't think any of my functions are volatile, so am not sure why the spreadsheet goes crazy.

I can either post the code up here or email the spreadsheet to any volunteers!

Thanks in advance.

Has it ever been determined why Access 2007 freezes all the time. This is a brand new install of this and the thing freezes on anything. I created a brand new DB and the thing froze when i entered one single value into a cell?

this is a serious set-back and i guess we can't go back to the old Access (2003) b/c of licensing!

Why??

Thanks

I use Excel 2003 extensively in my business. Over the last several months I have been experiencing delays of 5 to 10 seconds moving from cell to cell. The worksheet I am using for bookkeeping is about 500k in size. I do not use any macros on it. I have been using this format and simple formulas for 3 years. I enter data into several cells then sometimes it will freeze for 5 to 10 seconds. Windows Task Manager indicates Excel is using 95+% of the CPU during this time. When it un-freezes it works fine, but this happens every 3-4 minutes. Very frustrating.
I run Zone Alarm (updated) & Webroot Spysweeper (updated). Windows XP Service Pack 2.
My CPU is 2 years old and works well, 1Gig of ram.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
